Emergensea Duo…
meet Charlie and Adam!
SCILLY SPIRIT SPONSORS
Charlie and Adam’s Row Across The Atlantic 12th December 2021
From A&E to the sea, the “Emergensea Duo” husband & wife, Adam and Charlie, are a pair of NHS Emergency Medicine doctors hanging up their scrubs to take on the Atlantic in December, rowing for almost 2 months, to raise money for frontline medical charities.
Scilly Spirit Distillery (run entirely by husband & wife, Arthur & Hilary Miller) on the Isles of Scilly, is to be the title sponsor to “Emergensea Duo”, to support them on this incredible journey and in turn the mutually valued medical charities.
On 12th December 2021 the Emergensea Duo, Adam and Charlie, will depart from San Sebastian in La
Gomera, Canary Islands, rowing around 1.5 million strokes, battling 30 ft waves and burning in excess of 5000 calories per day to reach the finish line at English Harbour in Antigua. They will face huge mental and
physical challenges whilst competing against 35 international teams in this Talisker Atlantic Challenge, with their sights set on breaking the mixed pair record of 43 days, 15 hours and 23 minutes.
The Scilly Spirit Distillery duo, Art & Hils, started their little distillery on St Mary’s island in the Isles of Scilly – surrounded by The Atlantic - in May 2019, when they launched their “Island Gin”, which went on to win multiple international awards, both for their striking bottle design and for the gin itself. Constantly inspired by the beauty and impressiveness of their location, they launched their “Atlantic Strength” gin last November in an equally impressive bottle design, reflective of this powerful ocean which surrounds them.
Charlie said “ I saw a bottle of “Atlantic Strength” on shelf, whilst Adam and I were shopping in our local Darts Farm, and we both thought this was so poignant to us and our forthcoming challenge, so we emailed Scilly Spirit Distillery that day”
Art & Hils were really struck by Charlie & Adam’s email. “We were so amazed and in awe of this young couple taking on this incredible challenge” said Hils. She continued “Being doctors at the RD&E hospital particularly resonated with us, as I had undergone surgery for cancer there just over 2 years earlier”.
“This close link, together with us having also raised funds for a couple of the other medical charities we noted Adam & Charlie were rowing for, it is the perfect partnership and so relevant for us two to support this brave duo!” said Art.
So this tremendous synergy was formed! Now the two couples are working together to progress with all the necessary preparations, most notably to kit out the boat and for Charlie & Adam to begin rowing training. One of these trial rows is to be from Exmouth to the Isles of Scilly, hopefully this August (when sea conditions will be most favourable), where the Emergensea Duo will collect a commemorative special bottle of “Atlantic Strength” from Art & Hils on the shoreline of St Mary’s, to accompany them on their Atlantic crossing.
