A Day on St Mary's, Isles of Scilly

While visiting our beautiful islands, to give you some inspiration on where to eat, what to do, what’s on and what to see, while you are here, Visit Isles of Scilly has lots of information and great links to all that is going on!

Firstly to arrive here, you will need to either take a scenic flight on a Skybus, watch dolphins swim alongside the Scillonian or arrive in a helicopter

Once on St Mary’s how about a delicious brunch at Hugh Street Café where the counter is always full of wonderful home made cakes, sandwiches, waffles and a deli counter brimming with treats! Abbi and Sam with their lovely team will look after you and you could even find space in your bag for their award-winning Scilly Salted Caramel, it has won a Great Taste Award 2022!

Once ready to enjoy the beaches and explore the rockpools, our choice would be to join the lovely family that is Scilly Rockpool Safaris. Scott, Samaya, Orkney, Orli Marley and Dusky are all involved and their knowledge and enthusiasm is boundless. You will discover hidden world of fascinating sea creatures, only accessible at low tide. You will be shown the secrets of the intertidal zone, learning how to find and identify a wide range of weird and wonderful creatures…. not to be missed!

After a busy time paddling in the water, it must be time to have a coastal walk and enjoy the incredible views around the island. Our beautiful archipelago is maintained and cared for by the busy team at Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust. Safeguarding the future of the Islands finest landscapes and protecting land and sea in our very precious environment to keep Scilly special. How about becoming a friend of Scilly Wildlife?

We would suggest a bite to eat at Longstone Cafe. Amy and Suzie bake many lovely homemade cakes which are displayed on the counter and a definite recommendation for lunch would be a crab or a lobster sandwich. Colin in his boat Grace Emilia has been fishing the waters around Scilly for years and always catches the best shellfish!

Scilly Spirit Gin School is a perfect end to a busy day! Art will guide you through making your own gin and developing a special recipe just for you, using some of the 70 botanicals we have. A three hour experience, starting with an Island Gin and tonic whilst you tour our island distillery, make your gin, bottle and name it and finish with a tot before you head off to enjoy your evening and possibly a beautiful sunset over Samson!
